Keep On Truckin' Re-Visited is a moderated newsletter/list about the time between the mid 60s and mid 70s. It was designed to examine and present a positive nostalgia of a time since past. It is also designed to provide a forum for you to share your feelings, thoughts and experiences from that time frame. Please participate and help this community grow. ---------------- To SUBSCRIBE, e-mail To UNSUBSCRIBE, e-mail (Drop me a note and let me know why, if you would.) To POST to the newsletter, e-mail or ---------------- Some random thoughts (that's all I have these days.) Thanks to all who sent in a poem - would have liked to have seen more. You may have noticed that this newsletter is very late - I am having a motivation problem that I hope to get over soon. Sorry about that. I was able to have the local library find an awesome book for me called "The San Francisco Oracle - Facsimile Edition". Wow, this book will take you back! Some day I would love to produce either a printed version of KOTRV (with much more details i.e., art, poetry, editorial content, etc..) or some other type of underground newspaper in the vein of SF Oracle or Berkeley Barb. Anyway, it's a dream.. who knows? Anyone else out there with the same dream? This issue is missing Cool Goodies and Cool Lists. Not sure if you have visited the web site of late, but I have been in the process of de-commercializing it as much as possible. There are still the books, tunes and vids pages that I keep going. Believe me, I am not making a fortune on any of this. I do plan to keep these areas going. For some time, I have been putting each issue up as a webpage, but I just don't get enough hits to keep this up. You can check out the past html issues at: http://www.vipgrafx.com/hippy/archive.html Well, that's about it - onward and upward. ---------------- Comments: comment: very interested in anyone with a background from the 60's early seventys and the Haight ashbury scene. Done that been there and now living a semi normal life in westchester loretta ricci (popoos@aol.com) comment: I have very fond memories of the 60's. of kids everywhere downtown every night of the week, but packed out on the weekends. May sound silly to kids today, but that was our big night out. There was nothing more fun than hanging out downtown, driving up and down main street, yelling at everybody you knew, showing off your rod and drag racing. I had a 62 New Yorker Chrysler, and it beat most rods in town. Or maybe I was just a more gutsy driver and kept the pedal to the metal longer. All I know is I won more than I lost. Didn't even need to drink to have fun. Of course I guess there were other things that were used. But I didn't even need the drugs. Just a hot car and down town, is all you needed to have a lot of fun. muskrat (muskrat8@juno.com) comment: if you judge someone you have no time to love them. -mother teresa Sarah Lindsay Kimmell (lindsay130@hotmail.com) comment: I'm looking for help with my thesis. Dear Vince, That's one of the best damn album listings I have seen in quite sometime. As an avid CD collector you have given me a list of some of my favorite material ever to go by! I played a lot of the tunes when they were still hits on the radio! I am the founder of the Robert Lee Whitefield Band, we are a psychedelic group and have been around since the late 1960's!!! I am going door to door to drum up support for our band through the internet. Most of our music is available for free in the form of mp3 files at - http://www.mp3.com/rlw If you get a chance visit our mp3 site and have a listen. Our latest single release "Meeting of Fears" was the number ONE hit in the psychedelic genre at mp3.com. We also have had tunes in the top 10, top 5 and number ONE spots. As previously stated, I am out here in cyber space digging up support for our group on a person to person basis. This is because I honestly believe that our music has something to say to freedom fighters, expanded consciousness advocates, hempsters, old and new hippies and lovers of peace and life. Check out our Number One Hit and download it for FREE see "Meeting of Fears" at: http://www.mp3.com/rlw If you would like to get on our mailing list just let me know! You'll be the first to hear about new music files, plus get a recipe or two. Also, please feel free to tell your friends about our music, they can also write me at raensept@dnaco.net we answer all email! I would like to thank you very much for all the hard work you put into Keep On Truckin'. I enjoy every issue and get a real buzz from remembering my own late teens in the late 60s, when I was a hippie of sorts here in England, if an Art student, which I was at the time, can really ever be considered as such. It is not that period that has prompted me to write to you though, but rather an email from 'Brittany' about the Beat poets and writers, Jack, Neil Cassidy, Alan Ginsberg and the rest. While I agree with most people that they were highly influential and were probably the for-runners of the whole counterculture thing, it is worth remembering how messed up they were. With the possible exception of Ginsberg of course who found some sort of serenity through Buddhism, they all had serious alcohol and/or drug abuse problems, suffered from depression and other mental problems and died young. Now I don't think this invalidates what they did and the influence they had and I enjoyed On the Road as much as anyone, but I think we make a mistake if we romanticise these people and make them into something they are not. A lot of them were casualties, which applies too, to the period that is discussed mostly on your list and many of us who 'experimented' at the time. Well I hate to write to you for the first time on a negative note, but there you go. The article caught my eye. Keep up the good work. Long may it continue. And thanks again. I have really enjoyed these books to help find our place in the present based on what has happened in the past. We are now where the industrial age is hitting up against the information age. There is much conflict at this juncture and it is interesting the way Alvin Toffler explains this. Check it out and get a different perspective on our times. Synopsis Examines the effects of rapid industrial and technological changes upon the individual, the family, and society. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0553277375/vipgraphivideo (you may need to cut and paste the url if it's on two lines) FEATURED ALBUM Yellow Submarine Songtrack [ORIGINAL RECORDING REMASTERED] The Beatles Original Release Date: 1999 Wow, it is amazing how many favorite albums I have or had over the years.
