INFO ***************************************************************** INTRODUCTION & MUSINGS: Welcome to the ## new subscribers who have joined us over the last month! So, what's it all about man? Keep On Truckin' Re-Visited is a moderated newsletter/list about the time between the mid 60s and mid 70s. It was designed to examine and present a positive nostalgia of a time since past. It is also designed to provide a forum for you to share your feelings, thoughts and experiences from that time frame. Please participate to help this community grow. To SUBSCRIBE, send e-mail To UNSUBSCRIBE, send e-mail (Drop me a note and let me know why, if you would.) ~~~~~~~~~ Thanks to all of you who took the time to fill out the questionnaire. The info you provided has indeed been insightful. I plan to give a bit more detail on your responses in next month's issue. If you haven't filled out the questionnaire and haven't sent it to the recycle bin, then there is still plenty of time to get it done. One item that was mentioned by a few folks was perhaps adding a chat area. For now, the best I can do is offer you my ICQ number. Whenever possible, I will try to be on-line late evenings, Sat. & Sun. Here's my number - ICQ # 2330090. If you don't have ICQ, get it at: The ICQ Homepage - ~~~~~~~~~ In the past couple of weeks, I have been in the process of moving my web site to a different host provider. It has been taking a while to get the bugs out, but I feel when the move is complete that it will have been a good decision. So, if you are having any problems with the web site, please let me know. If you haven't visited it lately, please drop by. http://www.vipgrafx.com/hippy/hippy ~~~~~~~~~ This month's newsletter features a mini-review and a CONTEST! We all love a good challenge so please check it out and test your knowledge. A special thanks goes out to Dave Bruton for being so patient with me while I got his CD reviewed. I would like to be able to have a sponsor and a contest every month. If you or someone you know would be interested in sponsoring an issue of KOTRV, please let me know and I will be happy to work out the details with you. -*~'^'~*-.,-,.-*~'^'~*-.,_,.-*~'^'~*-.,_,.-*~'^'~*-.,-,.-*~'^'~*- Hey, where were you and what were you doing in the 60s and 70s? Don't know how to use this editor very well, but this newsletter is a great effort. We shouldn't be afraid to get into the pros and cons of the whole "getting high" thing, though I'm the first to shrink from really discussing it. After all, the climate is even harsher now against things that many of us wholeheartedly endorsed or at least openly tolerated during that time. My little Geremiad about us boomers was a bit raw, but the issues raised genuinely do bother me. (Quote any of this you like. Hope my replies got put in the right place. --And so it goes. Drop In: ++++++ AFTERNOON A Magazine of Art & Literature In their own words: "AfterNoon is a reincarnation of sorts. Two issues of the original After Noon tabloid were published in 1969-70, before the rest of life intervened. The original title came partly from our sense that it was getting late in the day, and partly from the fact that we had settled in California, where the living seemed easy -- much like the long summer afternoons of our childhood. The living doesn't seem so easy now, but it is still late in the day. The forms of the past -- social, political, religious -- are clearly nearing the end of a long decline; those of the future are already partly visible, but their outlines have yet to be filled in -- we can see only dimly, at this point, how we get from here to there. This is how it must be for us, who have one foot in the past, and one in the future. The new AfterNoon, as part of the Motley Focus Locus, is an attempt to face up to this reality -- to record what we are now as accurately as possible. The hope is that by doing so, we will have some small influence on what comes after us. We call AfterNoon a magazine, but our intention is to abandon the periodicity which is characteristic of paper magazines. AfterNoon comes closer to being a magazine in the original sense: that is, a storehouse. Everything we put up will stay up, although if we are successful beyond our wildest dreams, we may have to develop some sort of archiving at a later date." REVIEW(S) AND CONTEST The Psychedelic Bus of Dead Knowledge This is a blast of a game to play - I followed the recommendations of Dave Bruton the author, by turning the lights down low, and the volume up high. This is definitely the way to play this game. It was kind of interesting to find out how little I knew about the Grateful Dead, ie. where they have been, the colorful people in their lives, and especially their music. I guess that is the best part - have fun and learning at the same time. Just a short note on installation: I was having some problems getting the audio to work properly and with a few exchanges of email messages to Dave, he and his tech support staff were able to point me in the right direction. (A big THANKS Dave!) Here is my recommendation, get a bunch of friends together around the computer and see how well you do. As you know, most things are better if shared with friends. Here are some of the many features of the game. o Nearly 1,500 questions! o Almost 100 audio and video IDs from Grateful Dead ® CDs and videotapes! o Hours and hours of play without a repeat question! o Explanatory "Further Information" windows increase your Dead knowledge! o Change game play options, screen-saver mode and add players mid-game! o Psychedelic animations used as rewards for getting the answer right! o Over 900 pulsing, strobing, and flashing graphics!
