Peace of heart
Peace of soul.

Plant four rows of squash:
Squash gossip
Squash indifference
Squash grumbling
Squash selfishness.

Plant four rows of lettuce:
Lettuce be faithful
Lettuce be kind
Lettuce be happy
Lettuce really love one another.

No garden should be without turnips:
Turnip for service when needed
Turnip to help one another
Turnip the music and dance.

Water freely with patience and Cultivate with love.
There is much fruit in your garden
Because you reap what you sow.

To conclude our garden. we must have thyme:
Thyme for fun
Thyme for rest
Thyme for ourselves.

Awake Erato---Five Poems---By Doug Tanoury
__________________________________________

“Awake Erato”
I whisper in urgent prayer
As we play master and slave
To senses that blend together
In this moment so finely
I can smell her movements
Taste fragrance
Hear texture
Touch her words
And see her thoughts

In passionate confusion
The hand is quicker than the eye
And mechanisms that trigger illusions
Is the obvious as
I am transformed into
Animal
Vegetable
Mineral
Reduced to the basic
And most elemental parts
In a universe of limbs
That is ever expanding

---

Agamemnon Has Aids

I met a man who wore
The death mask of Agamemnon
And he told me “That death
Like every other moment of your life
Is something that happens to you

I came in contact with the body fluids
Of Iphigenia without surgical mask
Or gloves and I had unprotected sex
With Achilles and made love to
Clytemnestra without a condom”

And all of Mycenae whispers
Every woman’s husband
And every man’s wife
In irony fitting Greek drama
The hero home from Ilium

To bedsores, lesions and conspicuous
Consumption ravaged now and stricken
With the strictly modern malady
That’s turned him suddenly old
Like King Priam and just as sad

---

August Rain

I remember an August once
When I could talk to him
But didn’t and each word unspoken
Rested like a brick on the silence
That lay thick as a layer of mortar
And grew into hardness between us

These day’s I think of him
Mostly when rain falls in gray sheets
With a soft hiss as droplets
Paint the pavement with color
Of an overcast sky and collects
On the road in pools in brought to full boil

In summer storms with the
Sound of thunder on my skin
I recall in the air’s smell and
The wind cool in my hair
An August once when rain fell
In mortar gray hardness on our silence

---

Arrangement In Gray

Mist on Manhattan this morning
Was framed in my window like a
Poorly exposed black and white print

With graininess graduating to fog
Subduing the sharp geometry
Of the skyline with softened definitions

Blurred lines and intimation
Of forms a black and white tug
Pushes a barge up the Hudson

As sky and buildings and water
All blend into an abstract landscape
Colorless like Nebraska in January

---

Gray Nude

In the dim light of December Afternoons
She is a shadow moving from bath to bedroom
Wearing twilight

Like a loose robe that falls open to reveal
A silhouette of breasts a dark profile of legs
Curved thighs

The touch of her still wet hair against my cheek
That afterbath scent of jasmine surrounding
Her skin

As I capture a shadow odalisque stretching over me
By breathing in and holding her deep within
My chest

Pardon me while first I clear the air of the steam emitting
from my ears...

>>comment: It's good to see yet another medium used to glorify
>>a bratty, rebellious generation which left us "free love"
>>(i.e. widespread STD's), a national drug problem and an
>>impotent military. Are you ever gonna admit you were wrong?

I am surprised that someone with such a small and closed mind
has gained the skills to operate a computer. Ok, enough
mud-slinging, here is my thoughts: Although I am only 31 I
have somehow developed the interest and capacity for
understanding the good things that all generations have given
us. I also comprehend the bad things, and try to learn from
them to make myself a better person. I appreciate the need to
vent about things that irritate you, but obviously the person
behind the keyboard is so focused on their own misery that
they need a scapegoat. My response: Drive on, get over it,
get a life, and any other fitting cliche.

FEATURED BOOKS

Zen Gardening
by Sunniva Harte

Book Description
Zen Gardening places every aspect of creating a Zen garden at
the hands of today's gardeners. This unique book simplifies the
complex principles adopted centuries ago by Buddhist monks,
explores their aims in creating outdoor spaces along Zen
principles, and reveals the meaning of the different elements
and their juxtaposition.

Gardeners will learn to create a controlled and harmonious
environment-and, in the process, to nourish the spirit and allow
anxiety to gently subside, making room for quiet reflection.

FEATURED ALBUM

The Wall [ORIGINAL RECORDING REMASTERED]
Pink Floyd

Audio CD (December 16, 1997)

Amazon.com essential recording
The Wall is less a collection of songs than a single work, which
is sometimes frustrating; the plot lacks enough coherence to hold
the snippets of music together. However, there are occasional
flashes of brilliance on what arguably ranks as Pink Floyd's most
ambitious project. Most of these come from the fully developed
songs, which have become classics in their own right; "Hey You,"
"Mother," and especially "Comfortably Numb" are subtly incredible
pieces of music. Though complex, they move at a relaxed pace,
allowing the listener to absorb them slowly; this kind of pacing
was something Pink Floyd excelled at. Also worth noting is the
"Another Brick in the Wall/The Happiest Days of Our Lives"
medley, which has become a staple of rock radio.
